Day 3

Another travel day. This time we drove through the rest of Nebraska. It is very flat and boring. Once we started following the North Platte river it was a little better. Then we started climbing and our gas mileage really fell. The wind also made it harder. Keith dropped his speed and stayed behind a truck. That helped. We got gas twice today! Finally got to Cheyenne, Wyoming around 2:00 mountain time--our third time zone.  We are here at the 6200 ft.--higher than Denver--and we aren't even in the mountain s yet!
Another Woodman camping tradition cooking in the rain.
On to Yellowstone tomorrow...

Day 2

Nothing exciting to write about today. We spent 9 hours driving from western Illinois, across the Mississippi, across Iowas and about halfway across Nebraska. Iowa us quite beautiful with its rolling hills, lots of trees and prosperous looking farms. Nebraska is flat and not so exciting. Both states have excellent rest areas (where we stopped for a picnic lunch) with playgrounds so kids can run and play before getting back in the car/truck/van or whatever.
Our campground for the night is a bit disappointing. It's right at the side of the road and consists of a level gravel area with hookups (that's ok), no trees, no person to check you in, the "free" wifi doesn't work. We are glad it's just for one night.
Tomorrow we head for Wyoming!!!

Day 1

Left Clarkston around 9:00 a.m. and it didn't take long for the rain the start!
The rain was mostly intermittent showers so we were ok. Keith is doing all of the driving and I am so glad because all the truck traffic on I-94 would have me white knuckling the steering wheel! I tried to take a picture of the "welcome to.." as we entered each state, but trucks got in the way. So far we have gone through MI< IN and IL. We reached our campsite for the night around 4:00. We are in western IL near Moline off of I-80. The campground is large, but not many people are here yet. Our site has a great view of the lake.

This was taken when I was standing in front of the truck.
Tomorrow will be our longest day on the road as we travel through Iowa and Nebraska. I have never been to NE before, so it should be interesting.
We may get to see a gorgeous sunset if the clouds go away...

Ready to hit the road

We are packed and ready to hitch up the trailer. Wouldn't you know it--it's raining!! Hopefully we will get past this batch of storms very quickly.

We are getting ready to hitch up our camping trailer and head west on an adventure across the USA. I will be posting digital postcards with comments so you can follow us on our month long trip! We did a "practice" trip to Kalamazoo so we would know what we needed to pack. The dogs went with us, but they will not be going on the big trip.
All we have to do now is to pack everything for our trip and head out on May 28.
